Consultation for Mental Health Providers using Harm Reduction Therapy

Introductory 6-week Harm Reduction Therapy Study/Consultation Group via Zoom

This introductory group is for therapists wanting to know more about Harm Reduction Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and their application in private practice. It continues for 6 consecutive Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm via Zoom.

Each week a different topic about Harm Reduction Therapy is introduced and discussed. Cynthia uses readings, video and exercises to teach Harm Reduction Therapy theory, Interventions including Motivational Interviewing, and explorations of therapist countertransference. 

The second hour is reserved for presenting case material brought by the participants. 

This virtual group is $85 per session. Participants are asked to be able to attend 5 of the 6 sessions.  

Ongoing Monthly Harm Reduction Consultation Groups via Zoom

Cynthia offers two monthly ongoing consultation groups for Harm Reduction Therapists:

  • every 3rd Friday of the month from 10am-12pm

  • every 4th Friday of the month from 10am-12pm


Therapists who have either completed the 6-week introductory group or who have experience working with Harm Reduction are appropriate.

These virtual groups are $75 per session and require a minimum of a 6-month commitment.

Training for Mental Health Providers working in community settings

Substance Use, Motivational Interviewing, and Harm Reduction Therapy

Trainings are tailored to your agency and level of competency for clinicians and other staff working with substance using clients.

Cynthia provides these trainings to several clinics (e.g., New Perspectives, Queer Life Space, The Clinic Without Walls at CIIS and RAMS) every year for their interns.  

She also has provided staff training for several residential programs, and is often invited to guest speak on Harm Reduction topics at UC Berkeley and Alliant University.

Cultural Competency/Responsiveness

Trained and certified in the The CBMCS Multicultural Training Program: an intensive 8-day training to help mental health professionals learn how to effectively facilitate trainings for cultural responsiveness. 

Additional examples of trainings and workshops:

Sex and Speed: working with men with HIV/AIDs, substance use, and psychiatric issues in a residential setting. 

Burnout: for staff working with complicated clients who use substances.

Countertransference: when working with people who use substances.

Using Harm Reduction in residential settings: for residential staff at all levels, who work with complicated clients who use substances.
